LEXINGTON, Ky. — David Kloiber joins the list of Kentuckians vying for the state’s sixth congressional seat in Washington.

The former Lexington council member announced his campaign Wednesday by focusing on topics like health care, affordable housing and the economy. He'll be running in the Democratic primary.

“I’ve spent my life creating jobs, solving problems and building community,” Kloiber said. “Now I’m ready to bring that same energy and focus to Washington, because families in Central Kentucky deserve leaders who work for them, not for party politics.”

Kloiber joins former Democratic state representative Cherlynn Stevenson and Rep. Ryan Dotson, R-Winchester, in the race.

Other names to watch entering the race include State Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe, R-Lexington, who is considering a congressional run. Former Republican State Senator Damon Thayer said he will keep all options open.

In 2022, Kloiber ran unsuccessfully against Linda Gorton to become the mayor of Lexington.

The open congressional seat follows Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington, announcing he hopes to replace long time Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
