MILWAUKEE — Funeral services for fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Kendall Corder are being held Friday, July 11, according to his obituary posted by Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral and Creamtion Service.
A visitation is being held at Elmbrook Church at 777 South Barker Road in Brookfield, Wis. on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m.
He will be laid to rest at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.
According to his obituary, he is survived by many relatives and friends, including his father Raymond Corder, grandfather Rozlyne Corder, siblings Dashawn and Rayanna Corder and nephew Rolando Corder.
Corder was one of the two Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officers who were shot on Thursday night while responding to a call about a person with a weapon who was firing shots near the area of N. 25th Street and W. Garfield.
When they got to the scene, the situation quickly escalated, with the suspect firing shots at the officers in an alley of the 2200 block of N 24th Place. Officials said the suspect was allegedly hiding in the bushes when the officers arrived. The suspect, 22-year-old Tremaine Jones, has since been arrested.
Both officers who were responding were struck by gunfire and were not able to return fire. With life-threatening injuries, they were then transported to the hospital.
Garrett Rose, President and General Manager for Wisconsin Memorial Park, said since taking on the role eight years ago, he’s assisted in three fallen Milwaukee police officer funerals including Officer Michael Michalski, Peter Jerving and now Kendall Corder.
“We have what’s called a Public Servant Program,” said Rose. “This is what we’re doing for the Corder family. Anyone that is killed in the line of duty as a police officer, fire department, EMP, a public servant. We service that family and we help them and we do that at no cost.”
Rose said this is a way to give back to the community and thank the family for their loved one’s service.
“Our main focus is to serve this family,” said Rose. “We want to do anything and everything we’ve asked them to do.”
He’s expecting hundreds of people in attendance to pay their respects to Officer Corder. This includes loved ones, community members and law enforcement from across the country.
Rose encourages the public to pay their respects at the cemetery on Friday after the funeral or on Saturday to give the family their privacy.
This is the second MPD officer who has died after being shot in the line of duty in the last two years. MPD officer Peter Jerving was shot and killed while responding to a call in Feb. 2023.
"Corder loved being an officer. He was proud to be part of Team MPD," MPD Chief Jeffrey Norman said.
