FOND DU LAC, Wis. — A 34-year-old male suspect is now in custody after a violent axe attack in Fond du Lac that left a 38-year-old injured.
Fond du Lac police said that at around 2:38 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, they responded to a residence near the 300 block of E. Merrill Avenue. It came after a 911 call from a female who said she’d been attacked with an axe, was bleeding and that her attacker had fled the crime.
Once they arrived, police located the female and found she had multiple “serious lacerations” to her head, back and limbs. They immediately began giving her life-saving care. She was later transported to the St. Agnes Hospital and then airlifted to Theda Medical Center in Neenah. There, she underwent “extensive surgery,” according to police.
Police said as of Sunday evening, she was in stable condition.
After some investigation, police identified a suspect, the 34-year-old male, and were able to track him down with the help of other agencies.
They located his vehicle at around 7 p.m. on Sunday near Germantown. Police ensued in a brief pursuit with the suspect before he was then taken into custody. He was also taken to Froedtert Hospital for a medical evaluation.
Police said the incident is under investigation and that charges will be handed down as they continue to gather evidence.
