MAYVILLE, Wis. — The City of Mayville has declared a state of emergency after a potential tornado caused significant destruction to the city's south side Wednesday evening.

Mayville Mayor Rob Boelk made the declaration, citing substantial damage to residential homes and factories. While the extent of the damage is being assessed by National Weather Service crews today, no injuries have been reported at this time, according to city officials. 

Alliant Energy crews are currently working to disconnect gas and electric services in the affected areas.

Officials say that residents displaced by the storm are being directed to the TAG Center, where the American Red Cross is providing shelter and assistance.

The city is asking that the public avoid the area south of Horicon Street to allow emergency services and public works teams to assist with debris removal and aid efforts. The timeline for cleanup remains uncertain. 

“We ask anyone that works on the south side of the City of Mayville to contact their employer,” Boelk said in a press release.
