CUDAHY, Wis. — A 12-year-old student at Lincoln Elementary School was arrested Wednesday after the student brought a handgun to school, according to Cudahy police.

The investigation revealed another student alerted a teacher that the 12-year-old student who was arrested may have possibly had a gun in his backpack. Police said the teacher then immediately alerted the principal while the suspect was in a different area of the school at the time. The principal opened the backpack, found the firearm and notified Cudahy police.

The student has been turned over to authorities at the Vel R. Phillips Juvenile Justice Center.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing, and there is no threat to the school or the public.
