JANESVILLE, Wis. — The City of Janesville has received nearly $120,000 in reimbursement funding from the Wisconsin Disaster Fund (WDF).

The money comes in after the City of Janesville spent $313,295 on tornado relief efforts following a tornado on June 22, 2024.

The National Weather Service classified the tornado as an EF-2, with winds reaching 115 mph. The aftermath brought downed trees, damaged homes and businesses and broken power lines.

The WDF reviewed documents provided by the City of Janesville, outlining the money spent on tornado relief and cleanup efforts. The eligible cost of recovery efforts totaled $170,802.28, leaving $119,909.60 to be reimbursed to the City of Janesville.

Wisconsin established the WDF to provide disaster relief to local governments. The funding covers 70% of the eligible costs for recovery efforts following a major disaster.

Reimbursed funds help ease the costs associated with the cleanup effort for the city, but are not for property owners who had damage.

“On behalf of the City of Janesville, I want to thank Governor Evers and his administration for their invaluable support in the aftermath of the tornado,” said Janesville City Manager Kevin Lahner. “The funding provided will significantly help to alleviate the costs associated with the cleanup effort provided by our dedicated City staff.”
