MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee police officer was shot Sunday, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Officials said that at around 10:52 p.m. Sunday, officers were sent on foot to the 1200 block of S. Cesar Chavez Dr. for Cinco de Mayo.

At that time, a suspect fired shots and struck one of the officers. MPD said that no one else was struck and that officers did not return fire.

The 29-year-old injured officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“The Milwaukee Police Department sends our thoughts and prayers to our officer and wish him a speedy recovery. We are very proud of all the men and women of the Milwaukee Police Department that showed great professionalism,” MPD said in a statement.
