DHS is working with Public Health Madison and Dane County to identify and notify those who may have been exposed to the measles virus.

In Wisconsin, cases of measles have been rare because of high vaccination rates, DHS explained.

Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious health issues for those who are not vaccinated.

The best way to prevent measles is to get the measles vaccine (MMR), DHS said. Two doses of the measles vaccine are 97% effective at preventing the disease.

Wisconsin residents can find their immunization records using the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).
