HUDSON, Wis. — Eight were injured following an accident with an Eau Claire Area School District bus Thursday morning, according to a statement from the district.

The accident took place around 10:40 a.m. on I-94 near Hudson, Wis. in a construction zone. Students from DeLong Middle School were on their way to a field trip to the Orpheum Theater when the incident occurred. There were two buses, but only one was involved.

Wisconsin State Patrol said the bus rear-ended a tanker truck as cars were slowing down due to merging traffic. Two westbound lanes were closed for the incident.

Officials with the district said first responders were called to the scene at the time of the accident. Six students, a chaperone and the bus driver had minor injuries. Two of the students were transported to a hospital for further care, including one for a cut on the lip and the other as a precaution.

The school district said they notified families of students who had injuries as soon as possible. All other families were contacted by email.

Those on the bus involved in the accident were taken to a rest area location, and a replacement bus was sent to pick up the rest of the students. Officials said they are expected back at DeLong Middle School later this afternoon.

The accident is being investigated by law enforcement.
