KENTUCKY — Be prepared with your ponchos if you are heading out to the track for Derby Day, with multiple shower chances possible.

What You Need To Know

  • Pesky showers possible all day long

  • Some heavier downpours as well

  • Much cooler temperatures

A low pressure system remains stalled out over the area, bringing the chance for wet weather through the rest of the weekend.

Kentucky Derby

Wet weather is expected to linger into Derby Day as the latest guidance shows an area of low pressure sitting and spinning over the region. If this happens, we could be looking at pesky showers, mist and drizzle, along with cooler temperatures throughout the day.

Temperatures will be on the cooler side, especially for the first half of the day. Look for temperatures in the 50s when the gates open up. By the afternoon, temperatures will climb only into the lower to mid 60s.

Of course, the unsettled weather shouldn’t be a surprise this time of the year. We are usually dodging wet weather at least a few days during Derby Week. Luckily, we aren’t dealing with temperatures in the 40s like we did back in 1957!
