LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After a fiery semitruck crash Friday morning, Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, said on X that the driver had minor injuries but was able to escape and no one else was injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Greenberg added he urges drivers to stay away from the area. The Interstate 64 and Interstate 71 ramps from Interstate 65 South on the Kennedy Bridge remain closed as crews continue to clean up, according to TRIMARC.

He said the city is working with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet on additional safety improvements after a similar incident nearly six weeks ago. On May 4, 2025, a crash caused a semitruck to hang over an overpass in Spaghetti Junction. The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation but was not hurt. The rescue operation took about a half-hour.

According to the Louisville Fire Department, crews responded to the scene. The Louisville Metro Police Department said drivers should expect delays, and those traveling from I-65 Southbound out of Indiana should consider using the Sherman-Minton, Second Street or Lewis & Clark bridges.

On March 1, 2024, a semitruck and two vehicles were involved in a crash on the Second Street Bridge. The cab of the truck dangled on the end of the bridge and above the Ohio River for 45 to 50 minutes. The driver was safe and did not sustain any injuries.

This is a developing story. We will add more details when they become available.
