LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Ivy Tech Community College State Board of Trustees announced Wednesday its election of former Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Marty Pollio as the college’s 10th president. Pollio will assume the presidency on July 1.

Pollio has served as superintendent of JCPS since 2017. He retired from the role in Feb. 2025.

According to an Ivy Tech News release, the Board conducted a national search for its 10th president. Pollio rose to the top for his passion for students and experience, creating results around workforce readiness and academic excellence.

Pollio dedicated over 28 years of his career to serving the students of JCPS as an administrator and educator. He earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, his master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and his doctorate from the University of Louisville.

As Ivy Tech’s 10th president, Pollio will serve as the chief executive officer of Indiana’s largest postsecondary institution, which serves over 200,000 students at 19 campuses across Indiana and online.

“Ivy Tech is doing great things in Indiana,” Pollio said. “I’m honored to be joining such a strong institution, and I’m ready to continue building more value for students and communities across the state.”

Pollio will succeed Sue Ellspermann, who announced her retirement in June 2024 after nearly a decade of leadership at Ivy Tech.
