MILWAUKEE — In the wake of law enforcement or first responder deaths in Wisconsin, a team of volunteers does its part to help first responders grieve and come to terms with the tragedy.

"We're a group of passionate volunteers that have a ton of experience," said Michael Sasse, president of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Death Response Team. "These volunteers are from across the state of Wisconsin, and they range from dispatchers to sheriffs to chiefs to retirees."

Sasse said that even though police officers face the risk of a line-of-duty death every time their put their uniforms on, members of the Milwaukee Police Department are again forced to lean on each other, fellow law enforcement officers and the community at large to move forward.

"We're trained to deal with tragic incidents sometimes on a daily basis," Sasse said. "When we experience these tragic incidents, we take our next calls and move on. When we lose one of our own... there still needs to be a process of grieving, understanding what's occurred, moving forward and processing that entire event."
