WISCONSIN — The U.S. Department of Justice tracks the number of officers shot by state through its Community Oriented Policing Services Office (COPS).

In Wisconsin, six officers were shot in 2023. Four died.

Another six were shot in 2022 and 2020, respectively. None of those dozen officers died as a result of the shootings. Data from 2021 was not immediately available.

In 2019, four were shot, and two of them died.

Thursday night, two officers were shot in the line of duty in Milwaukee. That brings the total of officers shot in the line of duty this year in Milwaukee alone up to four.
