TEXAS — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has given SpaceX permission to launch rockets in South Texas up to 25 times annually.

Prior to this, SpaceX had a yearly launch rate of 5.

SpaceX is grounded until the FAA completes its Starship Flight 8 mishap investigation or decides it’s safe to resume launches.

The SpaceX Starship test flight (Starship Flight 8) launched on March 6.

Although the Super Heavy booster landed safely, the Starship upper stage exploded during ascent.

SpaceX has used Starbase, a new city in South Texas, to launch its rockets since 2013. A vote to incorporate the surrounding neighborhoods into the city of Starbase was held earlier this month.

The city’s official incorporation is expected to be finalized Tuesday with Cameron County’s signature.
