NEW RICHMOND, Wis. — A massive stormfront cut across Wisconsin Thursday and spawned a tornado in New Richmond, WIs. Meanwhile, Carol Ottman, and a fellow driver with Kobussen Buses, were driving dozens of students home on their two buses.
"Beth was leading us in her bus," Ottman said. "We were headed out on our routes and we were in a pretty close vicinity to where that tornado touched down... We got the notice to find shelter and we were about a mile from Beth's house — that's where we put the children up, in the pole barn there."
Minutes later, as the sun broke through near the barn, Ottman said they opened the doors and were able to clearly see the tornado straight ahead of them.
"We looked over and that's what you see in front of the bus — the tornado," Ottman said. "That was after we took shelter and we'd just come from that area, so we were very thankful and got all of the students safely into that pole barn."
