GREEN BAY, Wis. — Mother’s Day is celebrated every second Sunday in May. Many businesses did their part to make moms feel special.
Brenda Weddle became a mother over 20 years ago. She said it wasn’t easy, after going through years of miscarriages and infertility struggles.
“It’s extra special. My journey wasn’t easy to become a mom, so I get a little emotional,” said Weddle. “It didn’t come easy. It took many, many years to become a mom. So, I just feel very blessed. I’m grateful for every day that I have the title ‘mom.’ It’s the best title I have.”
For the mother of four, which includes two stepchildren, it was the first time she and her son decided to attend the Mother’s Day brunch in Green Bay. Weddle said every year, her family tries to come up with unique ways to celebrate Mother’s Day so that she doesn’t have to cook.
“They show me every day, it doesn’t need to be on Mother’s Day,” said Weddle. “They show me every day how much they appreciate me and love me. So, this is just like an extra day that I don’t feel guilty for not doing the work and just sitting back and relaxing.”
Her oldest son, Bennett Herold, said he doesn’t fully understand the sacrifices that his mother has gone through, but does his best to let her know how much she means to him. It’s why coming out to brunch is special for both of them.
“I really do appreciate it,” said Herold. “I think sometimes I’m a little unappreciative, but I know it means a lot to her, so it means a lot to me.”
Weddle said this emotional journey toward becoming a mom was fulfilling, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It means so much,” said Weddle. “They know and they are the greatest blessings and it’s rewarding… raising good humans.”
