LOS ANGELES — Kerry Washington and Omar Sy join forces in Lionsgate's new action film “Shadow Force.”

In the film, Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy) were once leaders of a multinational special forces group called Shadow Force, but the two break the rules when they fall in love. When the two have a son, they go underground only to find a large bounty on their heads and a vengeful Shadow Force on their trail.

Their family’s fight becomes an all-out war.

“This is a super badass action, drama, adventure,” Washington told Spectrum News. “It is really exciting and part of what makes it very special and different is that at its heart, it is a story about the love of family and the sacrifices that we make for the people we love the most.”

“Shadow Force” hits theaters this Mother’s Day weekend.

“It feels like such a great weekend to open,” said Washington. “Kyrah is such a badass mom, and I feel like there are so many amazing badass moms doing their best out there in the world. So, grab your badass mom and your bad ass partner because I think part of the journey of what Kyrah learns is that you have to lean into your partner. If you are lucky to have a partner as great as Isaac, treat him well and take him to the movies. Grab the people you love the most and squeeze them tight and enjoy the film.”

Both Washington and Sy are no strangers to playing smart, powerful characters. Washington played Olivia Pope in “Scandal” and Sy plays Assane in Netflix’s hit show “Lupin.” But could Pope and Assane keep up with Kyrah and Isaac in “Shadow Force”?

Washington told Spectrum News it was fun to think about an alternative universe where these two people who are so badass get to be badass together.

And if you watch the film, you will soon realize the importance Lionel Richie’s music has for Kyrah and Isaac. So, what is their favorite Lionel Richie song?

They both love “Hello,” but the song “Truly,” the pair said, plays such an important part in the film.

“Shadow Force” also stars Mark Strong, Academy Award winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.
