NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Now that the July 4 weekend has come to an end, it’s time to put an end to launching fireworks, the North Ridgeville Police said.

Writing a post on its Facebook page, the northeast Ohio police department reminded residents “don’t be that guy.” In addition, the department reminded residents to clean up any messes left from the fireworks.

“If you own a 100 acre ranch....you do you,” the post read. “If you live 25 feet from your neighbor, let's all just be cool now. People have to work. They have babies that are trying to sleep. They have pets that have been peeing all over the house for a week. Some of them have PTSD issues and just can't with all of this.”

Presently, setting off consumer fireworks are illegal in the state, however the Ohio General Assembly passed a bill that would legalize use of fireworks. The bill specifies that fireworks can only be launched on certain holidays. If signed by Gov. Mike DeWine, the use of fireworks would be legal on July 3, 4 and 5 and the Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays preceding and following.

Although most towns had firework shows last weekend, there are still a few this weekend. The Cleveland Indians will have postgame fireworks on Friday. Also, Sheffield Lake will have its community fireworks show on July 9 at 10 p.m. along the shoreline.
