OHIO—Ohio’s unemployment rate is near historic lows and by all accounts, the state’s economy is thriving, but that means little to many Ohioans, who know nothing beyond living paycheck to paycheck, let alone getting ahead.

Sometimes, giving everything you’ve got still isn’t enough.

Spectrum News 1 reporters traveled across Ohio to find out who is affected, and what communities — large or small — are doing to help families rise out of persistent poverty.

On Saturday, August 31, Spectrum News 1 Anchor Sophia Constantine will host an hourlong special "Breaking the Cycle: Generational Poverty."

The special will air at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. and again Sunday at 4 p.m.
