LANESBOROUGH, Mass. - Some people in Lanesborough recently encountered an aggressive raccoon.

It reportedly attacked two men on and near the Ashuwillticook trail last week.

Police searched for the animal, but it has not been found and they’re asking people to be on the lookout.

“If you are, in fact,  attacked or you have a dog or another pet that’s attacked obviously, we encourage you to make sure that you get medical attention for yourself immediately," Lanesborough Chief Robert Derksen said. "Yyou know, treat any bleeding that might occur, wash the wound with soap and water.”

Derksen also reminds people that if they have to defend themselves, for the raccoon to be tested for rabies it’s important its brain is intact because it’s what the Department of Health needs to test.

Also, if you walk with your pet it’s encouraged to keep them up to date on their rabies vaccine.

If you see an animal acting weird or aggressive make sure to call local authorities and get out of the area if you can.
