Gubernatorial candidates are hitting the airwaves.

Democratic candidate Adam Edelen and Republican candidate Robert Goforth have each released television ads ahead of the primary election in May.

Edelen aired his first ad on Sunday during the SEC Championship game and it began airing across Kentucky on Tuesday. The ad titled "Only One" serves as an introductory ad highlighting Edelen's upbringing in rural Meade County, while also telling the story of the pain he felt seeing his dad get laid off. The ad also highlights that his campaign is the only one not taking PAC money while touching on campaign issues such as health care and the economy.

On the Republican side, Robert Goforth released his first television ad on Wednesday. The ad titled "Roots" highlights Goforth's upbringing in Southeast Kentucky and takes a hit at opponent Gov. Matt Bevin, R-Kentucky, for not being from Kentucky. "It’s time we have a Governor from Kentucky and Main Street, not New England and Wall Street," he says during the ad.

Edelen is facing Attorney General Andy Beshear and House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins in the Democratic Primary, while Goforth faces Gov. Matt Bevin and William Woods in the Republican Primary.

The primary election is May 21.
