COVINGTON-- Nationwide, including in Kentucky, thousands took the streets to protest President Trump's National Emergency declaration.

In Covington, members of Indivisible Northern Kentucky gathered at Senator Mitch McConnell's office.

Braving below freezing temperatures and even snow, members of Indivisible NKY CD$ gathered outside the office of Kentucky's senior senator to show their unhappiness with the president's declaration of a National Emergency.

Ann Dickerson is the leader of the chapter. She says this is a fake National Emergency, as even as he was announcing it, President Trump said he didn't have to do it.

Even more than that, Dickerson says it isn't American, saying American is a place supposed to welcome immigration.

As the group rallied outside McConnell's office, they said the president isn't the only person they're mad at. She says the group is also unhappy with Senator McConnell, saying he is forgetting about the separation of powers within the government.

Last Thursday Senator McConnell said he would support a national emergency. Then Friday. he issued a statement, calling for Democrats to put partisanship aside and offer more funding to build the wall.

Democrats have said they expect a resolution opposing the declaration. It would easily pass in the House, but in the Senate where Democrats are the minority, they would need help from across the aisle.

Kentucky's junior senator, Senator Rand Paul, has come out against the emergency declaration, but members of Indivisible here say they aren't counting on his vote. They say he often votes with the party, especially when he is a deciding factor.

While their action now may be limited to protests, they says in just a year and a half,  there will be much more action, when they head back to the polls.
